Ovidiu Olar is a Researcher of the “N. Iorga” Institute of History of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest). His PhD thesis, to be defended at the parisian École des hautes études en sciences sociales (Centre d’études byzantines, néo-helléniques et sud-est européennes), is entitled “La boutique de Théophile. Les relations de Kyrillos Loukaris (1570/2-1638) avec la Réforme”. Apart from Loukaris, the (in)famous Greek “Calvinist Patriarch” of Constantinople, he is interested in the religious reforms and in the confessional “Cold War” of the 17th century, as well as in the history of political ideas. His latest publications include: Răzbunare împotriva tiranilor. Teoria politică a protestantismului francez [Vindiciae contra Tyrannos. The Political Theory of the French Protestantism], Bucharest, Nemira, 2007, 299 pp.; “Orthodoxie et politique. Le Synode de Târgovişte (Janvier 1659)”, New Europe College Yearbook 2007-2008, Bucharest 2011. He is a member of the Romanian Association for the History of Religions, and a member in the advisory board of JEMS (Journal of Early Modern Studies).
